U4 HafenCity

Consulting and planning for the new construction of the metro line

The new city-constructional developmental areas of the HafenCity are efficiently connected to the public, local transport network via the metro line U4.

This new, to-be-constructed metro line has a total length of approx. 4,1 km and links to the metro station Jungfernstieg in the area of the Binnenalster, while also already under passing large portions of the inner city and also several harbour basins in a depth layer of approx. 29 m.

The track segment with a length of 2,8 km is driven against via shield driving O 5,6 m with two one-track tubes. For the safety of the emergency rescue possibilities, 4 emergency exits are arranged. These are bored from the surface and partially connected to the tunnel tubes in the safety of glaciations.

In the area of the HafenCity, two stops, as well as the in-between-laying track segment with a total length of 1,2 km are produced via cut-and-cover method. The building pits were equipped with a flood defence.

The building pit Querung Magdeburger Hafen revealed itself to be a special steel-water-constructional challenge in the tide area. The structure is completely situated in the ground water and therefore in the area of tide influence.

ZPP was commissioned with the project planning in section 3 – civil engineering structures and the specialist planning in section 1 – structural planning, both areas including service phases 1 and 2 (basic evaluation, pre-planning) according to HOAI (Official Scale of Fees for Services by Architects and Engineers). Part of our service range was also the construction supervision, the consulting of the client, the claim management, the planning verification and the tunnel-constructional consulting.
