Metro line U2

Feasibility study for the new construction and overbuilding of a metro tunnel

On the terrain to the north east of the Leipziger Square on the former Wertheim area, the development of 3 to 8 aboveground storeys is scheduled, directly at the octagon of the Leipziger Square and opposite to the Federal Assembly, as well as alongside the Voß Street.

The construction field will be crossed to the northeast by the underground driveway of the metro line U2, from the Leipziger Square to the Voß Street on track length of approx. 125 m.

ZPP or the predecessor company was commissioned with a feasibility study that investigated solutions that focused on the possibility of realising the demolition of the existing tunnel and the new construction of the tunnel segment alongside the overbuilding. Essential planning guidelines included a short off-time for the U2 operations and the construction site boundary conditions for the overbuilding.

The existing tunnel is partly situated in groundwater. As groundwater subsidence were not possible, the only fitting construction methods were those that could be realised within the protection of dense excavation holes.

Furthermore, ZPP or the predecessor company acted as a consultant for the client.
