Combined Cycle Plant Lausward

Structural verification for the new building of “Block Fortuna”

With the “Block Fortuna“ a new natural gas power plant was being built at the location Lausward in the harbour of Düsseldorf. The new plant is going to be the one of the most powerful and most efficient gas and steam turbine power plants in the world. It produces energy with a combination of gas turbine, steam boiler, steam turbine and additional waste heat utilisation.

During its begin of operation, it set a world record with an efficiency of more than 61% at power generation only. Additionally, the existing heat energy will be used for the district heating network of the Stadtwerke Düsseldorf. Of one single power plant block with only one gas turbine 300 MW will be used for district heating.

ZPP was acting, within an association of verification engineers, as a structural design verification engineer (structural design verification engineer: Dr.-Ing. Dieter Lehnen). The scope of services comprised, beside structural verification, random inspections of the execution of construction work on site.
