Project and structural planning for the section Düsseldorf to Duisburg

To improve its services in railway passenger transportation in the metropolitan area Rhine-Ruhr the Deutsche Bahn AG is planning a new fast connection named “Rhine-Ruhr-Express” (RRX) between the cities of Dortmund and Cologne. This project is the most important infrastructure project in North Rhine-Westphalia concerning growth in rail-bound passenger transportation. It is successor to the initially planned magnetic railway Metrorapid and will operate without interference from other railway systems.

ZPP INGENIEURE is commissioned, in an association of engineers, with the project planning in section 3 - civil engineering structures and in section 4 - traffic installations for the service phases 1-4 (basic evaluation, pre-planning, draft planning and approval planning) according to HOAI (Official Scale of Fees for Services by Architects and Engineers) as well as the specialist planning in section 1 - structural planning for the service phases 1-4 according to HOAI for four batches of the project approval phases 3.1 and 3.2 between Düsseldorf and Duisburg. They encompass a length of ca. 18 km and involve more than 100 engineering works.

These are in detail:
_New building of 2 tunnels
_New building of 16 railway overpasses
_New building of 5 street overpasses
_Adjustment of one pedestrian overpass
_Remodelling and adjustment of 4 stations with new building of platforms
_New building of 23 noise barrier walls with an overall length of ca. 17 km
_New building of 18 retaining walls with an overall length of 2,9 km
_Adjustment of 28 culverts
_New building of 20 signal brackets
