Landscape Park Duisburg-North

Retrofit planning of three heritage-protected industrial masonry chimneys

The heritage-protected Landscape Park Duisburg-North in Duisburg-Meiderich is an industrial fallow with a size of approx. 180 hectares, that have been remodelled into a multifunctional park with a new style. In the centre stands a disused mill, whose old industrial facilities are utilisable in varied ways today.

The landmarks of the Landscape Park Duisburg-North are it three masonry chimneys, measuring approx. 80 m each, that are, due to their light staging, visible for kilometres away, also at night. The heritage-protected chimneys from the year around 1910 were shut down in the early 1990s, after they have been in use for the duration of 80 years prior at the steelworks formerly situated there.

In order to furthermore guarantee the stability and traffic safety of todays culture, nature and amusement parks, ZPP, with regard to the retrofit and redevelopment planning, was commissioned with the condition capture and assessment, as well as with the specialist planning in section 1 - structural planning for the service phases 1-6 (basic evaluation, pre-planning, draft-planning, approval planning, execution planning, preparation of the contract awarding). Furthermore, we are working in an advisory role for the client.

In order to control the drying of the masonry, a monitoring system was installed, documenting the drying progress of the up to 1,50 m thick masonry.
