Railway overpass over A 43

Project and structural planning for the replacement building of EÜ BW 4409-689

The Landesbetrieb Straßenbau NRW (regional road construction) plans a six-lane expansion of the road BAB 43. Over the course of this measure, the Herne motorway crossroads will be rebuilt.
The routes 2208 and 2650 of the DB AG and a connecting rail are crossing the motorway crossroads in the area of the exit and merging lanes of the crossing BAB 42, the expanding of the BAB 43 requires the renewal of the existing railway overpass by a bridge with bigger complete supporting widths.

The bridge superstructures are built while maintaining the railway operation at the same location of the existing bridge. Stoppage pauses are only scheduled for the installation of temporary bridges, manufacturing bare piles for the abutments and the hoisting of superstructures.

The plan is the renewal of the railway overpass, taking into account the current and future operational requirements. The execution of a structure situated above is required due to the to-be-applied clear entrance height and the upward-limiting of the superstructure through the preset and to-be-retained location.

Besides the preferred option of a tied arch bridge, the option of a pylon-based, power- cable-stayed bridge, a prestressed concrete bridge with lateral main girders and a truss bridge were taken into consideration.

The bridge will be provided with two superstructures with two rail tracks each. In order to optimise the span width, the superstructures were arranged, shifted by approximately 3.60 m in comparison to the ground plan.

In addition to the planning services for the bridge, the services for traffic planning, the LST and the catenary planning are provided.
