Project and structural planning for the restoration of the bridge

The Bottroper Street in Essen is led by a bridge over the DB rails of the S2 and RE3, on height of the Volkspark. The bridge consists of two separated, parallel structure parts that have been constructed in different construction years. The western structure part, whose superstructure was produced as a three-fielded composite cross section, has to be replaced by a complete new construction including substructures as a single span girder field with optimised span. The new structure is a two-lane street cross section with bike way and footpath on the western cap.

ZPP has created the assembly of the draft work for the replacement construction of the road bridge. The service spectrum included the creation of a demolition concept and the creation of service texts with quantity survey for the demolition of the existing bridge, as well as the services of the construction ground expert that was hired as a subcontractor for ZPP.

With the planning for electrified railway, the railyway-technical needs and prerequisites, e.g. work during obstruction breaks and grounding had to be considered. The building measure had to be planned while maintaining the ongoing rail and street traffic. The variant evaluations of the draft planning were processed while considering the possible construction methods and the traffic routing during construction. The construction-temporal safeguarding of the old building structure was processed with a fall protection and a vehicular restraint system.

We performed our services according to HOAI (Official Scale of Fees for Services by Architects and Engineers) in section 3 - civil engineering structures, with the service phases 1 to 3 (basic evaluation, pre-planning, draft planning) and 6 to 7 (preparation of the contract awarding, participating in the contract awarding process). For the specialist planning in section 1 - structural planning, we overtook the service phases 2, 3 and 6 (pre-planning, draft planning, preparation of the contract awarding), as well as for the security and health inspection according to AHO issue no. 15.
